Telegram has long become more than just a messenger — it’s now a true assistant in our daily lives. It’s where everything happens: from family chats and school groups to work tools, online courses, and news feeds. Many users even use Telegram as a nearly limitless personal cloud storage. But how secure is it?
In fact, Telegram offers many free tools to help you protect your privacy and control your information. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the key security settings for different use cases.
To manage general security settings in Telegram, go to the “Settings” tab in the bottom left menu and open “Privacy and Security.”
Telegram offers a two-step verification feature that adds a password to the standard one-time login code. This prevents unauthorized access even if someone obtains the SMS code. You can enable it via:
Settings → Privacy & Security → Two-Step Verification
Pro tip: Be sure to add a recovery email in case you forget your password.
Telegram lets you see which devices are currently logged into your account — useful for spotting any suspicious activity. You can find this option at:
Settings → Privacy & Security → Active Sessions
From here, you can terminate any sessions you don’t recognize or no longer need.

Telegram also offers detailed controls over who can access your personal data. You can choose who can view your info:

If you use Telegram for personal purposes, it’s best to limit visibility to “Contacts” or “Nobody.” For business purposes, consider making your phone number or profile visible to make it easier for clients to reach you.
Channels in Telegram also come with privacy and control features. To access them, open your channel, tap the channel’s profile picture (top right), and go to “Channel Settings.”
You’ll find the following:

Groups also offer multiple privacy and moderation tools:
By setting up your profile, channel, or group securely, you can confidently protect your personal and business data. Telegram offers a wide range of privacy and safety tools, and thanks to ongoing updates, it remains one of the most secure messaging platforms today.
